Reduce your tax liability with Brother Wolf!

From a Brother Wolf Animal Rescue email:

Because you cared.

For animal rescuers, there’s no better feeling than to be able to say “Yes, we can help.” To a family who can’t keep their pet because of financial, medical, or housing issues; to a caring person who found an abused, abandoned or lost animal;to a shelter worker who wants to give one special dog or cat another chance. There’s only one way we can do all of this: with the support of friends like you!

This year, Brother Wolf Animal Rescue has made amazing strides. With your help, we have…

– Found homes for 212 CATS and 556 DOGS,almost triple the number from 2008. Among them, a black lab puppy named Zax rescued from a high-kill shelter, shown in this video meeting his new family!
Transported over 75 puppies to rescues in the northeast
– Assisted local families in spaying and neutering over 150 pets and promoted trap-neuter-return of feral cats
– Opened our no-kill shelter Pet Soup to house dogs and cats awaiting a foster or permanent home and to operate our Thrift and Gift Shop
Brother Wolf Animal Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We are volunteer run and exist solely on the help of our wonderful supporters! When a sick, injured, or special needs pet comes along who requires a little extra TLC, we rely on your gift to give that dog or cat every chance for a healthy, happy life.

A wonderful organization and very worthy of a donation! And they have some great dogs available—I check their website often while we decide if we can really afford a dog. If only vets were not charging such outrageous fees… They make it hard for folks like us to have a dog.

And, by the way, I’d love to know if you have any suggestions for affordable vets—-we’ve been looking. Back when we had a dog just ten years ago, we were able to get vet care, but the fees seem to have gone way up since.

Petsmart offers low cost vet care, and a few of my friends go to the South Asheville one. We love Mills River Animal Hospital, but with the gas crisis of 2008 we decided to find someone closer. The dog got a check up earlier this year in Fletcher, but I wasn’t terribly impressed (pushy with the pharmies). Have you considered fostering? We did for about a year, and it was a great experience because we weren’t financially obligated for anything related to their care (aside from transporting to and from adoption days). To get our budget used to having another mouth to feed, we did buy food and toys for the fosters. The hardest part for most people is being able to send them off to their forever home; however, I always thought about how important it was for my dogs to move on so we could save another one from death row or whatever other horrible living situation.
