Weekly Green Challenge (aka Change the World Wednesday)

Posted by eemilla on June 18, 2009

Small Footprints over at Reduce Footprints has targeted one of my numerous pet peeves with this week’s Change the World Wednesday Challenge; a more informative (and ranty!) post is forthcoming on why the question shouldn’t be paper or plastic at the check out line.  Our household will be striving to remember to bring the reusable bags to every trip to the store.  Hope you’ll do the same!

  1. Plastic bags are truly an awful thing! When I go to the store, I am amazed at how many plastic bags are used … and to think that the majority of them end up in landfills and waterways. It’s terrible!

We have a few reusable bags … they live in the car but I seem to always forget to bring them into the store. So, I’ve started telling the “bag person” to simply put everything back into the basket and I’ll bag them, myself, when I get to the car. I get a few weird looks but … it works.

    Thanks for accepting the challenge!

Okay, I’ve got to admit that I don’t always do this. But I do reuse the paper grocery bags for my trash, so maybe that counts for recycling? But I do agree that those plastic bags are awful. I see them all the time blowing all over, sometimes even up in trees. A depressing sight.

It definitely counts for reusing! Another suggestion is to raid the recycle bin in the foyer of the store. All of the Ingles I visit (we have a glut of three within five miles) always have overflowing bins.
